The ABC about Volunteering

The ABC about Volunteering
Hi! If I ask you about the alphabet, you will probably recite me the 26 letters in one go. You also probably know about the funny game where one person chooses a letter and the other participants have to fill in different categories with a word starting with the same letter. Don’t worry, I don’t want to remind you your first days at school! This is not what this article is about. But, if I tell you about the “ABC of something”, it is about the basics of this something. This something I want to t...

How to create a special event about Climate Change

How to create a special event about Climate Change
Open SundayOn the 8th of January 2017, we, Climate activists, will organize an “Open Sunday”. What is that? It is an event in which we will bring you to the wonderful world of plants. They not only look beautiful and taste good, they also have amazing powers – contribute to both health and vitality! What has worked for hundreds of years does also work today. Its just out of fashion to use homemade remedies. Fortunately the knowledge has not been lost. It has been preserved for such a long time a...

End of Year Speech

End of Year Speech
At the end of 2016 I have to say: I am sad.  Let me explain this: I am sad because this year great things have happened. Now I am not sad because they happened. No. I am happy for that. But I am sad because it will be hard from now on to go beyond that and because it will be hard to stand up and do better. I have accomplished great things of which I am very proud. I fulfilled a dream that I had. The dream to see another world and to touch someone's life, the dream to make a difference. I ha...

REASONS WHY I´M HERE!

REASONS WHY I´M HERE!
I´m Vanessa, teacher for the Climate team and a former DI for the 18 months’ program “Fighting with the poor” May 2014. The reasons why I´m still here in the school are various and broad but let´s get a bit into perspective. When I came here I met so many people from different places with a common goal. “Let’s unite to change this world”. My team, which I adore, made me work a lot with myself since we had, as I said, different ways to look at things; but what mattered the most to me is the pur...

A report about our visit in the NFC by Christopher Hartmann member of the Climate Activist Team October 2016

A report about our visit in the NFC by Christopher Hartmann member of the Climate Activist Team October 2016
We visited the Nordic Folk Center at the beginning of the week and stayed there until Wednesday. Although I had expected it to be more related with Nordic Folklore it was no disappointment at all. Actually it was very impressive. The NFC is a kind of testing ground for renewable and sustainable ways of energy production and living. Especially for solar and wind energy. Companies from all over the world, whether they operate in Europe, USA, or Asia, propose NFC to test and monitor their products....

Experience of the people’s exam

Experience of the people’s exam
So, the first people’s exam is over and it was awesome, not perfect of course, but it was really really good. When I heard that the exam is happening, I was a little concerned cause when I hear the word exam or test I flashback into my days at school. It was always related to panic and fear when I heard that I had to write a test or something like that. This one was different. It was the most comfortable exam I ever had. We had a quite big audience but that was no problem at all. Me and my team ...

Climate Action No.1 by the October team

Climate Action No.1 by the October team
How would you react if you get a letter with a face of Mother Nature? Would you be brave enough to open it?  From the first glance it seems a simple painting, but let us look deeper into it. November 23rd the group of activists from Lindersvold was working the whole day to make it happen.  The activists decorated 200 envelopes using oil colors and stamps made from potatoes. Therefore, it is impossible to find two envelopes which look exactly the same. Are you curious to know what is in...

Building Weekend by Karolina

Building Weekend by Karolina
The building weekend – a perfect time to meet up with new people while working. Was the work pleasant or even interesting? Almost all the people who have been in that weekend answered with one voice: “Yeaaah!” So, what is the secret behind this? The answer is simple – the power of a teamwork! Of course, music helped a lot to maintain a positive work environment.   All of the participants were divided into groups of five – making up around 10 groups in all. For example, 3 painting groups, gr...

FROM THE FIELD: Pre-school Amalika, Malawi

FROM THE FIELD: Pre-school Amalika, Malawi
In our first week we managed to visit 8 of the pre-schools surrounding the Amalika Teacher Training College. We got a chance to speak to the teachers,  school committee members and some the chiefs of the villages. The state of the buildings differed from place to place some classes were being held in local churches, while other schools didn't have a building at all or had buildings in really bad conditions. The communities seemed very encouraging towards the whole Idea of the preschools, bu...

CLIMATE OPEN HOUSE BY VANESSA

CLIMATE OPEN HOUSE BY VANESSA
On 11th September we opened our school to those who wanted to share a nice time with us; full of fun, learning, nice food and debates…  We were happy with the visit of 26 refugees who join us on this special day in which the main topic was concerning second hand clothes and the impact for the environment. As we are very concerned about climate change in our school, we created a program called “The Climate Activist Program”, for people like us who worry about which future are we leaving behi...

Summer Theater 2016 – ‘Lampedusa’ by Julius

Summer Theater 2016 – ‘Lampedusa’ by Julius
Summer Theater 2016 – ‘Lampedusa’ by Julius “This is where the world began, this was Caesars highway, Hannibal’s road to glory! The Mediterranean gave birth to the world.”  This was the beginning of the play, the first moment of the whole act, the metamorphosis of me becoming Stefano and Zane becoming Denise. Now it has reached its moment of flight, where as if birds we were jumping out of a cozy nest we were tested whether we will fly or hit the rock hard ground. Everyone was waiting for t...

Summer Theater Camp 2016
Summer Theater Camp 2016  By Rebecca From 6th to 9th June 2016, 6 of us from DRH Lindersvold went to Tvind to attend the Summer Theater Camp.  Although we were not so many people to prepare such a big event, it was nice to be with other teams from other schools like DRH Norway, PTG and DNS team 2014 and 2015. We were organized by responsibility areas like parking place, food production, catering, evening program, decoration, sport hall and TCE. I am aware that these names could sound q...

The perfect match – teaching and volunteering :)

The perfect match – teaching and volunteering :)

The perfect match – teaching and volunteering    I was always running away from teaching topics. Maybe this is because all my family in one way or another is connected with education system. Volunteering  in my family and  among my university friends  is a common thing and all the time it  has been a regular thing to me. I remember after 2011 volunteering got a different value because  a lot of attention was paid to  this topic. The European Commission cal...

Life´s Courageous Lessons That Must Be Told

The 28 of February we had the pleasure to invite some refugee guests to our school who touched our heart in many different ways. There are so many lessons to learn from such a horrible situation, a lot of hope to take about human strength and so much humanity to learn from trying to stand in each other’s shoes. That day we had two presentations from two different refugees who told us their story and the story of their places. It´s was a mix of feelings gathered together as with words and experienc...

Refugees Speaking at One World Center

Refugees Speaking at One World Center

By Jordi González

Yesterday, One World Center Denmark held an Open Sunday. We invited two refugees from Syria that now live in Denmark to talk about the situation in that country and in Middle East and about the travel that they were forced to do after war in Syria. Wael Kotaini from Aleppo (Syria) and Alaa Al Dein, a Palestinian man born in Syria, visited Lindersvold and each made a speech about their own situation, and the suffering of the Syrian population and the people from other countries that lived there because of recent armed conflicts, for example in Afghanistan or Iraq.
